Finish a set of simple tasks

10 min

This activity challenges people to accomplish a number of tasks that they normally wouldn’t do during their working day. It forces people to standup, which is good for the body. This fun activity reminds that simple tasks can be solved quickly and we should not overthink when there is no need to do so. Everyone will see that sometimes “Done is better than perfect”. Besides learning about each other, it might help people to do less overthinking in working situations.

Moderation Steps:

  1. Select the tasks carefully. Be mindful of the audience, set clear goals and a timeframe. You can visualise questions in advance to make them more funny.
  2. Explain the exercise, set the timer (e.g. for 5 minutes), and then leave all the tasks visible for participants during the exercise. Here is an example of 4 tasks:

  • Task 1: Bring something green.
  • Task 2: Show the oldest object you own.
  • Task 3: Show the smallest thing on your desk.
  • Task 4: Show the softest thing you own.

3. Let people briefly present what they have. Limit the time (e.g. no more than 30 seconds each).

4. Be the first to show an example. Try to have an example that inspires people in different ways (e.g. competitive types what to do better, creative types, see there is a room for creativity, etc).
